OPP have released data in regards to stunt driving and the number of charges being laid in the northeast.
Last year, officers with OPP in the region charged over 200 drivers with stunt driving and racing.
In the first quarter of this year, 43 drivers have been charged and the largest demographic at 39% is drivers between the ages of 21 and 30.
86% of the people charged were males.
The penalties for stunt driving and racing are enormous.
A drivers’ licence is suspended at the roadside for 7 days and the vehicle is impounded for 7 days.
Fines for a conviction range between 2-thousand and 10-thousand dollars and up to 6 months in jail.
For a first offence conviction, a drivers’ licence can be suspended for up to 2 years and for subsequent offences, up to 10-years.
