Design concepts and initial programming and events ideas for the 6-point-6-million dollar future downtown plaza were presented to city council at last night’s meeting and those plans will now be brought forward for public consultation for feedback that will assist in finalizing those plans.
Council heard from Colin Berman from the architectural firm Brook McIlroy who happens to be from the Sault.
The future downtown gathering place bordered by Queen/Bay/Brock and Spring Streets would feature a stage for concerts with a capacity to accommodate 25-hundred, movies and theatre, as well as an integrate LED screen.
It would also feature a splash pad, skating rink and fire pit.
There would also be an indoor skate change area, public washrooms and garage for a zamboni.
It’s hoped the project will be provided senior government support through funding by NOHFC and FedNor and community fundraising will also be a component.
