City council has given Sault College approval for 100-thousand dollars in funding to support the establishment of a new 4-year engineering degree program.
The local College is partnering with Humber College to offer the Bachelor of Engineering-Mechatronics program as students will gain knowledge and skills in mechanical, electrical and computer engineering.
The city’s contribution through the Economic Development Fund will support the 4 million dollars needed as the project involves the construction of classroom and laboratory space.
The College is also looking for financial contributions from the two senior levels of government.
It’s expected the first cohort of 40 students will begin studies in September 2022 and the program will see the creation of 12 to 15 high paying jobs.
