Funds from the City’s Economic Development Fund will be used to support the Greyhounds in their Memorial Cup bid for the 2021 national championship.
City council was unanimous in its support at last night’s meeting in providing the Greyhounds 300-thousand dollars.
Team majority owner Tim Lukenda took part in the discussion and he assured council that if the event has to be modified or scaled back due to the pandemic, the issue will be brought back to council..
The Hounds will also be pursuing funding from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation and Tourism Sault Ste. Marie.
A report to council indicated that the uncommitted balance of the EDF fund is almost 522-thousand dollars.
