January, February and March 2020 Traffic Report
Kim Nowack, Executive Secretary of the MBA, reported today that 204,035 vehicles crossed the
Mackinac Bridge during the month of January compared to 190,994 in 2019. For January, traffic
was up 6.8% and fare revenue was up 4.7% compared to last year.
During the month of February, 216,732 vehicles crossed the Mackinac Bridge compared to
179,681 in 2019. Traffic was up 20.6% and fare revenue was up 19.1% compared to last year.
During the month of March, 177,904 vehicles crossed the Mackinac Bridge compared to 234,497
in 2019. Traffic was down 24.1% and fare revenue was down 14.4% compared to last year.
The traffic data report for January, February and March was delayed by the implementation of
the new toll software system.
The MBA’s sole source of funding is from tolls and fees collected at the Mackinac Bridge. All
revenue collected is used to maintain, operate, and protect the 62-year-old National Historic
Civil Engineering Landmark.
