Algoma Public Health isn’t saying exactly where the person who has become our region’s first confirmed COVID-19 case is from.
APH Associate Medical Officer of Health Dr. Jennifer Loo during a morning news conference yesterday would only say what had previously been stated—-the case involves a woman in her 50’s from Algoma District who was a traveler who arrived late Sunday night from the United States.
She had been aboard Delta Flight 4-2-1-2 that flew into Chippewa County Airport on Sunday at approximately 10:45 pm.
She developed respiratory symptoms and notified Algoma Public Health on Monday and was tested the same day and is recovering at home in self isolation.
Dr. Loo talks about what this means for our area…

She adds that this does not mean we can be complacent.
Dr. Loo suggests the virus may start spreading more widely and we may start to see community transmission.
Algoma Public Health has been receiving receiving hundreds of calls a day from those inquiring about COVID-19.
Dr. Jennifer Loo was asked if the number of calls has increased following word of our area’s first confirmed case…

Chippewa County Health officials have been notified of the case and any one else on that flight from Algoma should already be self isolating and should contact APH.
