United Way Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District is asking for the public’s help as its fundraising campaign
is falling short of funds needed to meet its ongoing commitments.
In September of 2016, United Way Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District launched its first ever 5-year
campaign focussed on reducing poverty in Sault Ste. Marie and the communities of the Algoma District.
In order to achieve the outcomes committed to as an organization, the United Way will need to raise
additional monies in the current year.
“A significant benefit of running a five-year campaign is the ability to make multi-year commitments to
partner agencies, delivering important programs which reduce the impact of low income on the health
and well being of families in Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma District. Multi-year funding allows partner
agencies to implement longer term strategies and consequently have a greater impact on their target
population. Failure to secure a continuous revenue stream throughout the five-year window will affect
United Way’s ability to honour these multi-year commitments and will reduce community impact.”,
states Chief Executive Office, Gary Vipond.
