City council has thrown its support behind a resolution brought forward Monday night by councillors Gardi and Hilsinger calling on city staff to look into possibly of banning plastic bags in our community.
The resolution specifically calls on city staff to consider and report back to council on a process to discourage and or eliminate the use of plastic bags within the community including a plan for the municipality to reduce and or eliminate its own use of plastic bags and single use plastics.

Mayor Provenzano also brought forward a Notice of Motion that will be considered at the next city council meeting proposing that 20% of the Economic Development Fund be earmarked for both Algoma University and Sault College for efforts to grow our two post secondary institutions.
The initiative would be in place for the remainder of the council term meaning up to 100-thousand dollars would be made available in each of the next three years to support projects leading to growth.
