The Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corporation is looking to tap into the city’s economic development fund to support future expansion plans.
City council will be asked to consider a request from the Airport Development Corporation for 200-thousand dollars over two years in 2019 and 2020.
The funding will contribute to a 5.3-million dollar project to expand existing infrastructure.
It will allow for the further expansion of current tenants JD Aero and Sault College and the attraction of new tenants.
The project funding is contingent on contributions from other levels of government.
Specifically, JD Aero is looking to expand by one additional hangar and increase their staffing levels by roughly 50% to around 200 to 240 employees.
