ALGOMA DISTRICT (April 8, 2019) – The Wishart Municipal Group (WMG), a division of the Wishart Law Firm, and Expertise for Municipalities (E4m) successfully hosted Peter Kenyon, a community renewal and change expert from the firm Bank of I.D.E.A.S. (Initiatives for the Development of Enterprising Action and Strategies) in the Algoma District from April 5th to April 7th, 2019.

Peter Kenyon is an Australian-based social capitalist and community enthusiast. He has been helping municipalities reinvent themselves and improve their economies for over four decades. Over the last several days, WMG and E4m partnered to bring Mr. Kenyon to Elliot Lake, Manitoulin Island and Sault Ste. Marie to engage with civic leaders and community builders to brainstorm ways to improve Northern Ontario.

A major focus of Mr. Kenyon’s teachings is the benefit of communities investing in leadership to ensure that the progress that is realized today is built upon tomorrow and in the years ahead. Another aspect of communities reinventing themselves and improving their local economies is for businesses and municipalities to promote the benefits of their neighbouring businesses and municipalities. What you put in to promoting your neighbor, you’ll get back ten-fold, according to Kenyon.

While in Sault Ste. Marie, WMG and E4m had Mr. Kenyon meet with municipal leaders from Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma District. He learned of the efforts of FutureSSM, was led in a walking tour of the Sault by City Planning Staff, and had the opportunity to speak to a group of over fifty community leaders, developers, social activists and educators.
