Happy World Down Syndrome day! Join us along with millions around the world celebrating this day. On December 19th, 2011 the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution to declare March 21st each year to be celebrated as World Down Syndrome Day. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness of Down syndrome, a congenital disorder caused by having an extra 21st chromosome. This resulted in a major step forward for WDSD to celebrated and observed by persons with Down syndrome, also for their families and friends, those that live and work with them. We welcome and appreciate others who support us in promoting and ensuring quality of life and human rights for all persons with Down syndrome

.The Sault Ste. Marie Down Syndrome Society is a non-profit parent organized and led support group that offers support to parents and families that have children, teens and adult members in their family with Down syndrome. We work to improve the quality of life for people with Down Syndrome and assist individuals with Down syndrome to become fully integrated into the community. We also, offer the following services: social activities, parent support meetings, school support and advocacy and public awareness. We also, create a calendar bi-annually to promote awareness. This year we will have our new calendar available in November for 2020.

We believe that individuals with Down syndrome benefit from loving homes, early intervention, inclusive education, appropriate medical care and positive public attitudes.

Thank you for helping us ensure that no child gets left behind and the you and others continue to see the ability.

Locally,  we are asking to you to celebrate and “See the Ability” You can celebrate by doing any of the following: wear yellow and blue, wear lots of socks….mix match, the more colourful the better (post your pictures on our Facebook site), Stop and dance for 3 minutes 21 seconds (great for a classroom activity), do a random act of kindness for someone. Consider donating to support our endeavours. Have fun with it and & share! Post photos on social media and help spread the positive message!
