City council will be asked to approve a resolution at tonight’s meeting that calls for replacing the over 50-year old McMeeken Arena with a new twin-pad arena at a cost of 25-million dollars.
It’s recommended the twin ice pads be NHL sized with seating for between 300 to 500.
If council gives the go ahead, a steering committee would be established to drive the project forward and report back to council on its progress.
It also calls on city staff to apply for possible infrastructure funding to support the project and for finance staff to internally fund up to 1.1-million dollars for architectural and engineering design services in 2019 to move the project forward.
Staff are also asked to investigate options and costs to decommission the McMeeken Arena and report back to council.
