Sault Ste. Marie, ON (2018 01 31) – Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services continue to contain the fire that
has been burning in the 200 block of Queen Street East.
All citizens are asked to avoid the area until the fire has been brought under control. Emergency
response units are on the scene and in the process of dealing with the incident.
Transit routes in this area have been redirected. Please contact City Transit at 705-759-5438 for
additional information.
Anyone impacted by the fire are asked to assemble in the GFL Memorial Gardens lobby where
staff and the Red Cross are on scene to assist.
“For anyone displaced by the fire and in need of a warm place to go, the GFL Gardens is open
and the City welcomes you to head there,” said Mayor Christian Provenzano.
“I also want to recognize our first responders and City staff, who have been hard at work for a
number of hours. It is important to recognize the efforts of the people who work incredibly
hard in service of our community because it can be easy to take for granted that help in often
the most challenging of circumstances will be there when we need it.”
