(SPANISH, ON) – On January 25, 2019, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were called to a residence on Front Street in the Town of Spanish, Ontario, following an altercation. A 49-year-old male and a 32-year-old female suffered serious injuries and were subsequently transported to hospital.

 

On January 25, 2019, a 30-year-old female, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Attempt to Commit Murder (two counts), contrary to section 239(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Break and Enter a Dwelling House with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence, contrary to section 348(1)(a) of the CC;
  • Disguise with Intent, contrary to section 351(2) of the CC; and
  • Aggravated Assault (two counts), contrary to section 268 of the CC.

 

The female was remanded into custody in relation to this incident.

 

Further, on January 25, 2019, a 17-year-old male, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) was arrested and charged. After further investigation, the male was released unconditionally.

 

Then on January 29, 2019, two arrest warrants were executed at a residence on Beckett Boulevard in the City of Elliot Lake, Ontario. The OPP’s North East Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), Canine Unit, Crisis Negotiators and Critical Incident Command (CIC), Tactics and Rescue Units (TRU), and Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) assisted with the execution of the warrants.  As a result of these warrants, two males were arrested and charged.

 

Shaun WILSON, 33-years-old, from Elliot Lake, Ontario, is charged with:

  • Attempt to Commit Murder (two counts), contrary to section 239(1)(b) of the CC;
  • Break and Enter a Dwelling House with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence, contrary to section 348(1)(a) of the CC;
  • Disguise with Intent, contrary to section 351(2) of the CC;
  • Aggravated Assault (two counts), contrary to section 268 of the CC;
  • Robbery with Weapon, contrary to section 344(1)(b) of the CC;
  • Uttering Threats – Injure Animal, contrary to section 264.1(1)(c) of the CC;
  • Utter Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm (two counts), contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC and;
  • Mischief Under $5000, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC.

 

Jason GAMBLE, 37-years-old, from Elliot Lake, Ontario, is charged with:

  • Attempt to Commit Murder (two counts), contrary to section 239(1)(b) of the CC;
  • Break and Enter a Dwelling House with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence, contrary to section 348(1)(a) of the CC;
  • Disguise with Intent, contrary to section 351(2) of the CC;
  • Aggravated Assault (two counts), contrary to section 268 of the CC;
  • Robbery with Weapon, contrary to section 344(1)(b) of the CC;
  • Uttering Threats – Injure Animal, contrary to section 264.1(1)(c) of the CC;
  • Utter Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm (two counts), contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC; and
  • Mischief Under $5000, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC.

 

Both accused males have been remanded into custody until their next court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, on February 1, 2019.

 

The investigation continues under the direction of Detective Staff Sergeant Serge Acay of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), with the assistance of the OPP’s East Algoma Crime Unit and North East Region Forensic Identification Services (FIS) Unit.
