Locals acclaim Sheehan as Sault Ste. Marie Riding’s candidate

27 January 2019-Sault Ste. Marie- Supporters packed the Mane Street Café and Lounge on Sunday afternoon for an election style rally. The unopposed Terry Sheehan spoke to members of the Sault Ste. Marie Federal Liberal Riding Association, saying he was honoured to be running for re-election as Member of Parliament for the Riding of Sault Ste. Marie.
Sheehan said it was great to launch his re-election campaign at a small business in the City’s downtown during Small Business Week.
Sheehan reminded those gathered that on Jan. 1, 2019 the Liberals had once again reduced the small business tax rate, this time from 11 percent to nine percent, noting that this rate is one of the lowest small business tax rates in the world.
Looking back, Sheehan listed many Historic Investments that he had been involved in, right here in the Riding, since he became MP in 2015. Investments in our postsecondary institutions, local industry, small businesses and infrastructure.
At the same time taxes for the Middle Class were cut and the Canada Child Benefit was introduced, raising Canadian children out of poverty. The Guaranteed Income Supplement for seniors was also given a boost, providing greater income security for 900,000 seniors. The age of eligibility for Old Age Security and the GIS was also restored to 65 from 67 years.
Sheehan said that he and the federal Liberals won the last election because “We ran a positive campaign of Hope and Hard Work. We had the Power of the People; that is, a great number of volunteers. I am proud and encouraged that I am continually approached by more and more people wanting to help out on this upcoming re-election campaign.”
