SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – New, dedicated telemedicine equipment is being put into use this month at Sault Area Hospital’s Algoma District Cancer Program (ADCP) thanks to a generous $25,000 donation from local CIBC branches. With this gift, CIBC has donated over $100,000 in the last 15 years to support local care at Sault Area Hospital.
“Cancer research, awareness, and assisting those impacted by cancer is a priority for CIBC,” said Josh Firth, General Manager for CIBC in Sault Ste. Marie. “We are all impacted by or are close to someone who has been impacted by this disease. We’re very proud to be able to support cancer needs in our community through our donation.”
While much of a cancer patient’s care can be delivered locally through ADCP, telemedicine equipment is used to facilitate consultations, conversations about care plans, and follow up visits with specialists across the province. The telemedicine equipment purchased with CIBC’s gift will support almost 2,000 appointments for cancer patients each year. Every appointment delivered through telemedicine reduces stress and saves a patient, and their family, the time and expense of travelling out of town for care.
