Police Arrest Male – Female Found Deceased

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On November 15, 2018, at approximately 5:45 a.m., members of the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a disturbance at a residence on Valley Crescent in Elliot Lake, Ontario. Investigation revealed a barricaded person within the residence. As a result, the OPP immediately established a safety perimeter in the area. The OPP’s Canine Unit, Emergency Response Team (ERT), Crisis Negotiators, a Critical Incident Commander (CIC), Tactics and Rescue Units (TRU), an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS), and helicopter were deployed to assist with the investigation. Algoma Paramedic Services also assisted with this occurrence.

At approximately 11:04 a.m., a 64 year-old male exited the residence and was arrested by police. A 67 year-old female was found deceased.

Members of the East Algoma OPP Crime Unit along with North East Region Forensic Identification Services (FIS), under the direction of Detective Inspector Rob Matthews of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are conducting the investigation.

The male is being held in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River, Ontario.

During the management of the scene, the OPP had requested the public to stay away from Valley Crescent and the surrounding area in order to enable police to carry out their duties effectively and safely. The public’s co-operation is much appreciated and restrictions have been lifted in the area.
