City council is sticking to a February 1st deadline for the Norgoma musuem vessel.
Council at last night’s meeting narrowly accepted a recommendation from city staff calling on the St. Mary’s River Marine Centre to finalize plans for a new location by the beginning of February.
The vote last night was 7 to 6 to accept the time line for the vessel.
That means the Norgoma will be permitted to remain ay the Bondar Marina until mid-April or as soon as weather and ice conditions permits a move to a new location.
Some councillors that voted against the resolution wanted to give the St. Mary’s River Marine Centre a full year extension and ward 2 city councillor Susan Myers made a last plea to allow the vessel to remain there permanently.
Deputy CAO Tom Vair says there are discussions taking place for possible new locations and the hope is there will be a site finalized by the February deadline.
