A spokesman for the Sault US Coast Guard says a Canadian pilot had been taxying on the St. Mary’s River before his float plane flipped over late yesterday afternoon.
The pilot who managed to make it on to the floats of the plane was quickly rescued by a recreational boater with assistance from a small commercial vessel prior to the arrival of energency responders from both sides of the river.
Lieutenant Creighton Chong of the US Coast Guard in Sault Ste. Marie says the plane was towed to the Canadian side and Canadian Authorities also took the pilot to the Canadian side—Canadian authorities will be in charge of the investigation.
There’s been no further word on the identity of the pilot.
