After a very lenghty discussion, city council last night approved a new sign by-law.
Council during more than three hours of debate heard from sign business owners, the Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Sault Ste. Marie.
The focus during last night’s discussion centred on the issue of portable signs and the new restrictions that will be put in place through the by-law will require businesses to have signs only on their property and will limit a maximum permit to six months.
Council was told the new by-law won’t take effect for two years and puts our city’s regulations more in line with other northern communities while still remaining more lenient.
