On June 16, 2016, Union Gas Limited presented a symbolic cheque in the amount of $119,708.00 to the Sault Ste. Marie Housing Corporation during the Corporation’s June Board Meeting. The rebate payment is courtesy of Union Gas’s EnerSmart Affordable Housing Conservation Program and it represents Union Gas rebates collected by the Sault Ste. Marie Housing Corporation for completed natural gas saving installations in 2015 at its 588 Albert Street, 345 St-George Avenue and 55 Chapple Avenue social housing facilities. The initiatives included installations of natural gas saving equipment such as higher-efficiency natural gas fired make-up air units and natural gas fired condensing boilers. During the expected useful lifetime of that gas saving equipment, the Sault Ste. Marie Housing Corporation can potentially save 1.12 million cubic meters of natural gas and the equipment lifetime cost savings can add-up to as much as $419,000.00. The Sault Ste. Marie Housing Corporation has participated in Union Gas Affordable Housing Conservation Programs since 2012. To date it has collected over $259,000 in total Union Gas rebates.
The Affordable Housing Conservation Program is designed by Union Gas to incent non-profit social housing providers to implement projects that will use natural gas more efficiently, and help reduce energy costs and emissions.
