On 19 April 2016 the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police will be conducting a tactical training exercise in the Leigh’s Bay Road area.

This exercise is being conducted in order to improve the tactical effectiveness of our own response to critical incidents (including incident command and negotiator aspects) and train to enhance the transition of tactical services from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Emergency Services Unit (ESU) to the Ontario Provincial Police Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU).

The reciprocal agreement that has been established between our organizations necessitates that we conduct exercises reflective of the possibility of being deployed at either agency’s request.

A large number of police officers, marked vehicles and tactical equipment will be deployed during the exercise which is anticipated to extend from 8 am to 3 pm.

The training areas will be clearly marked and little traffic disruption is expected.
