ElectionThe turnout was low in Chippewa County on Tuesday night for the vote on Proposal 1.  Only 27 percent of registered voters turned out — with a whopping 83 percent voting against Lansing raising the Michigan Sales Tax to 7 percent from 6 percent.  In Sault, Michigan the turnout was just 21.4 percent voting in the three precincts with 77.7 percent voting no.  This despite support from Sault, Michigan City Commissioners two weeks ago by a vote of 5 to 2 at their April 20th meeting.  The money for the one percent increase was expected to bring in 1.2 billion dollars in extra cash annually to improve and maintain state roads.
