CatholicBoardHuron-Superior Catholic District School Board trustees watched a presentation on Tuesday on the development of a Technology and Learning Plan. It was described as a ‘celebration’ of the work that actually began back in 2001, towards a point now where hundreds of devices are available in the classroom to improve learning for teachers and students. Lorenzo DiCerbo is the E-learning Contact with the catholic school board. He says the evidence is already there in preparing students for the future, through a learning management system for high school students…

One question posed in the video presentation was where the jobs of the future would be. DiCerbo answered that students today need the skills to work collaboratively online by using various digital tools independently. Collaboration, creative and communication skills will be also be vital when looking for employment after high school. The plan is aimed at closing gaps left by traditional learning methods. DiCerbo says one of those solutions is further collaboration by teachers regarding planning and instruction…

A lot of the focus for the plan this school year has been on numeracy. DiCerbo says the focus will eventually shift to literacy and other subjects in the future. There is a goal of establishing independent and creative learners, with a student to device ratio of 1.2 students per 1 device provided by the school board. DiCerbo talks about the next steps in further developing the plan as technology continues to change…

Another next step is to establish a partnership with various network providers to refresh network infrastructure to increase speed and capacity. This will done by replacing switchers and routers in every school, as well as some wireless technology. All of that work is expected to be completed by sometime in July.
