Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services (SSMFS) want to acknowledge April as “DIG SAFE MONTH”.  During 2014 SSMFS responded to several incidents which occurred from people digging and severing underground cables and gas lines.

“Incidents of this type are totally preventable” stated Platoon Chief Damon Ferris. “People need to plan ahead and get proper locates from utility companies that may have services buried under ground.”  Utilities such as natural gas, electrical, water, TV phone/internet all have cables or gas/water lines running from house to house and from roadways onto private property.

Residents and contractors should contact respective agencies who will identify “hot spots” prior to digging.  For more information, please visit DIGSAFE. CA.
