2014 Orazietti crop       Supplied by Sault MPP David Orazietti… Sault Ste. Marie – Ontario is investing in Sault Ste. Marie’s film production sector, creating jobs in the region and revenue for local business supporting film crews during production, announced David Orazietti MPP. “Funding these types of projects leverages private sector investment, creates job and supports local businesses in our city,” said Orazietti. “These productions which are filmed, produced and screened in our community also help to grow our arts and culture sector, as well as foster local talent.”    The province’s Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) invested $3.5 million in six projects that support film production in Sault Ste. Marie:

” Remember Pictures Inc. received $1 million to shoot the film ‘Remember’; ” Gold Rush Entertainment received $885,674 to shoot the feature film ‘Stand Off’. ” Paragraph Pictures received $500,000 to produce the film ‘Love of My Life’; ” Industry Pictures received $500,000 to shoot the feature film ‘Fall’; ” Six Island Productions received $500,000 to shoot a German Co-production / feature film entitled ‘Coconut Hero’; ” White Pines Pictures received $195,463 to produce a historical documentary titled ‘Spirit Land, In Search of the Group of Seven’;

Under the NOHFC’s Northern Business Opportunity Program – Film & Television Industry Projects, assistance is provided in the form of a conditional grant up to 50% of eligible costs. NOHFC funding is based on the project’s level of spending in Northern Ontario and on employment and training opportunities for Northern Ontario residents.

Investing in our cultural industries is part of the government’s economic plan for Ontario.
