Soo Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Raftis is pleased to announce today the commitment from 2018 draft pick RYAN O’ROURKE.
The Pickering, ON native was the Greyhounds’ 1st Round Pick (20th overall) in this past April’s OHL Priority Selection.

“We are very excited to welcome Ryan and his family to the Soo hockey program. Ryan embodies the high-caliber traits that we look for in a Soo Greyhound. He is a high IQ, smooth skating, tough to play against defensemen that can be dangerous in transition as well as on the attack” began Raftis.

“Ryan is a player that we have had the advantage of watching over the past two seasons and have been continually impressed by the evolution of his game. We look forward to adding Ryan to our program and partnering with him in his on ice and classroom development in the Soo” concluded the GM.

The 6.01, 175-lb defenceman played last season with the Vaughn Kings Minor Midget AAA Hockey Club, where he was an Assistant Captain.
In 55 regular season games played, O’Rourke tallied 12 goals and 32 assists, good for 44 points.

In tournament play, Ryan had 1 goal and 1 assist in 7 games with Vaughn at the OHL Cup before notching the same point totals with Team GTHL Red in 4 games at the OHL Gold Cup

Next month O’Rourke will be one of 111 players participating in Canada’s National Under-17 Development Camp in Calgary, Alberta.

“This is what I have been working towards, and I am very excited for what comes next” stated O’Rourke.
