SUDBURY, ON – Health Sciences North (HSN) appointed Max Liedke as Senior Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of HSN effective August 20th. He will be the successor to Joe Pilon who will be retiring on August 31st after serving for more than 14 years in this role.

He served for seven years at Sault College as Director of Finance, Chief Financial Officer and Interim President, prior to joining the Sault Area Hospital in 2009 as Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer. In that capacity, he was executive lead for the hospital construction project completed in March 2011 and assumed executive responsibility for a wide-range of clinical areas from 2014 to 2016.
He is currently a member of the Ontario Hospital Association Labour Relations Committee and of the Meditech Collaborative Negotiating Team.

He is a Chartered Accountant and completed an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration at Wilfrid Laurier University and a Masters of Business Administration at Lake Superior State University. He taught part-time as a sessional instructor in accounting for eight years at Algoma University.
Following a national search, the appointment was recommended by a nine-member Advisory Committee composed of representatives from the HSN Board, Senior Leadership, direct reports, patient advisors, union leadership and a seasoned external peer.
“We are thrilled to have recruited someone of Max’s caliber as our next Senior Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer,” explained President and CEO Dominic Giroux. “Joe Pilon will leave big shoes to fill in August, and Max has the right skill set and experience in Northern Ontario’s health care sector, in education and in the private sector to help us successfully implement our future 2019-2024 Strategic Plan,” added Giroux.

“I am very excited by this new opportunity,” offered Liedke. “I will always cherish the last nine years as Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of Sault Area Hospital, and look forward to having a broader regional impact. This new role allows me to bring together two of my great passions – health care and education – serving our regional academic health sciences centre”, concluded Liedke.
