Sault Ste. Marie: The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (HSCDSB) will be celebrating
Catholic Education Week 2018 which runs from Sunday, May 6 to Friday May 11. The theme for the week
is ‘Renewing the Promise’.
Activities will occur from Monday to Friday at HSCDSB schools in Blind River, Chapleau, Elliot Lake,
Espanola, Hornepayne, Massey, Sault Ste. Marie, Wawa and White River.
“Catholic Education Week is an important week in which we publicly demonstrate how faith and education
are seamlessly integrated in our system,” said HSCDSB Director of Education, Rose Burton Spohn.
“This week is one of many times when our schools can celebrate the tremendous gifts of their students,
staff members, and communities, and an opportunity to affirm the value of Catholic education in Ontario.”
One of the special events planned for Catholic Education Week includes, the 9th annual Walk for Justice
on Thursday, May 10. Parents and guardians are invited to participate in this event, which includes
classroom discussions focusing on water and the need for all of us to be conscious of how important water
is to all life.
“As Catholics, we are required to respect all of God’s creations, our planet among them. The Walk for
Justice provides a visual exercise for our students to express, in a small way, what they have learned
about the responsibility all of us have to be stewards of water,” said HSCDSB Faith Animator, Sr. Pat
Carter, csj.
Parents and guardians are also invited to visit their neighbourhood Catholic school to participate in other
special activities scheduled during Catholic Education Week 2018.
