Monday, September 25, 2017, is provincial Franco-Ontarian Day. Hundreds of students from Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) elementary and secondary schools will observe this day with a multitude of activities in various schools and communities, starting on Friday, September 22. Decked out in green and white, students, parents and staff will celebrate the strength of their francophone community. While some students will participate in activities at school, others will attend flag-raising ceremonies or parade through the streets of their town to show off their francophone pride. All activities are aimed at strengthening francophone identity.

The following is a list of activities hosted by CSCNO schools. Members of the media are invited to attend.

Friday, September 22
Grades 4 to 8 students from École St-Étienne (Dowling), École Alliance St-Joseph (Chelmsford) and École Ste-Marie (Azilda) will join students from École secondaire Catholique Champlain (Chelmsford) for their Festival Franco-Requins. Over 1200 people will attend this celebration of francophone pride, which takes place at ÉSC Champlain, 61 Brookside Drive, Chelmsford. Games begin at 9 a.m. and end at 12-noon with a flag-raising ceremony at 12:30 p.m.

Students from kindergarten to grade 3 at École St-Étienne (Dowling) will participate in a 10 a.m. flag-raising ceremony at their school followed by various activities that end at noon.

A flag-raising ceremony will take place at École Saint-Joseph (Blind River) at 9:30 a.m., followed by an animated march, a community hullabaloo, through the streets of the community.

Monday, September 25
Students from École Alliance St-Joseph (Chelmsford) will gather in the school gym for a francophone cultural activity.

École St-Joseph (Dubreuilville) will host a fun-filled day of activities to highlight Franco-Ontarian Day.

Students at École Notre-Dame-du-Sault (Sault-Ste-Marie) will attend a flag-raising ceremony at 12-noon at the local Civic Centre, hosted by the Centre Francophone de Sault-Ste-Marie.

École St-Joseph (Sudbury) will be holding a rally for students and staff. The rally will be followed by a march around the school.

Staff and students at École St-Denis (Sudbury) will take part in an animated march (hullabaloo) and a rally in the afternoon which will be followed by a flag raising ceremony.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence, providing a quality learning environment and an academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students enrolled in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
