Sault Ste. Marie, ON & Algoma District, May 24th, 2017: Algoma Family Services’ Student Nutrition Program and schools across the region celebrated Nutrition Month in March. A contest was held for students throughout the Algoma District. Students were asked to get a creative with their fruits and veggies to promote nutrition. The hope was to “take the fight out of food” and answer the question, “How Can You Make Food Fun?”
Students created a sculpture using healthy foods provided and submitted a picture of their hard work. Judges determined which entries were the most creative, fun and used the best variety of produce. The top winners from three grade categories
(JK – 3, 4 – 8, 9 – 12) were selected and awarded great prizes!
In total, 2153 students participated in the contest, submitting just over 600 sculpture photos. After a lot of deliberation, we are very excited to announce the following winners in each category:
JK – Gr 3: Austin (Winner), Tiana (Runner Up) & Alexander (Runner Up)
Gr 4 – 8: Riley (Winner), Gaige (Runner Up) & Precious (Runner Up)
Gr 9 – 12: Gordon (Winner), Celina (Runner Up)
We would also like to give an honorable mention to Superior Heights Intermediate class that submitted a large group submission.
We want to thank everyone that participated and congratulations to the winners!
