Sheehan sits down to discuss local challenges and opportunities with the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce

Thursday April 20, 2017-Ottawa, ON- MP Terry Sheehan sat down with Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce VP, Jay Naccarato, and the Chamber to discuss local challenges and opportunities within the Riding of Sault Ste. Marie. Specific topics that were discussed included the recently announced Budget 2017, Canada 150, and the local and national steel industry.

Measures from Budget 2017 that were highlighted included the increase in funding allocated towards infrastructure projects and the regional development agency known as FedNor. Also highlighted in Budget 2017 were the measures to strengthen Canada’s trade remedy system.

Sheehan also took the opportunity to announce the recent launch of the Prosperity and Growth Strategy for Northern Ontario, a targeted approach to economic development through innovation. This strategy will focus on ways to build on the unique strengths and competitive advantages that Northern Ontario has in mining, resources and agriculture, among other sectors.

The strategy will identify ways for these sectors to seize new opportunities in emerging industries, such as clean technology and advanced manufacturing, and develop new businesses that will create the well-paying jobs of today and tomorrow for Northern Ontarians.
