March 21, 2017 – Sault Ste. Marie, ON – MP Terry Sheehan was pleased to participate once again in today’s Standing Committee on International Trade. The committee is currently undertaking a study on The Canadian Steel Industry’s Ability to Compete Internationally. MP Sheehan has been asked to participate in the study, as he continues to be a strong advocate for the Sault Ste. Marie and Canadian steel industry.
During last week’s committee meeting, MP Sheehan had the opportunity to ask questions and hear from the United Steelworkers (USW) and the Canadian Steel Producers Association. Today, Essar Steel Algoma Inc., the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce, and other key stakeholders were asked to appear before the committee to provide their thoughts and perspectives. The study will continue on Thursday, with presentations from Tenaris and other expert witnesses.
“I am pleased to have the opportunity to ask questions and receive input from key stakeholders within the Canadian steel industry. We’ve heard that the changes made in the 2016 Budget have led to positive results. I look forward to seeing the Government’s continued support for the Canadian steel industry in the 2017 Budget, set to be released tomorrow.” said Sheehan.
